About me

Jan Kunovsky graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (he studied with Professor Čepelák). He has had over sixty solo exhibitions and has participated with many other artists in countless joint projects at home and abroad. Apart from many awards he received the main prize “Object 2,5-97” in 1997. He has sketched designs for the National Theatre Ballet, illustrated sleeves for Supraphon and Panton record albums; he has cooperated with Czech Television. We may find his paintings in collections and galleries in the Czech Republic and in the Czech Ministry of Culture collections. Jan Kunovský’s manifold works of art evoke Renaissance artists capable of encompassing a wide range of creative ideas and means of execution.

His current mode of expression, be it in drawings, paintings and objects, or based on various other artistic subjects, derives its roots from the time when his longing to capture the movement of a woman’s body brought him into contact with The National Theatre Ballet. Here he discovered new dimensions in expressing himself as an artist.

For a number of years Jan Kunovský has been collaborating with the National Theatre Prague. It presented on its chamber stage at the Kolowrat Theatre his visual-dance poem Sirael, selected for the programme of the “Prague – European City of Culture 2000” project. Noteworthy too is the performance Mozart and the Theatrum Mundi project in the upper and dress circles of the National Theatre.
